Reverberation, excessive noise and the distance from the sound source make it difficult for hearing-impaired individuals to listen, presenting a challenged in certain environments.

Remote microphones (RM) coupled with individual sound amplification devices or with cochlear implants (CI) are the most recommended solution to this problem. RMs are an accessibility technology that transmits the acoustic signal directly to the user’s hearing aids or CIs without interference from the environment, as if the sound source were very close to the user’s ears.

There are several types of RM: Frequency Modulation (FM) or Digital Modulation (DM) systems, telephone and television connectivity accessories, table microphone, among others.

There are two categories of RMs:

1) Personal RMs (designed to be universal, pairing with multiple CI sound processors and/or hearing aids), which can offer:
– Adaptive directional microphone
– Speech enhancement/Noise reduction
– Adaptive gain changes
– Digital radio transmission

2) RM Accessories (designed to work exclusively with technology of one manufacturer), which can offer:
– Digital radio transmission
– Fixed gain

This website aims to present the different types of remote microphones, especially those associated with educational environments. Due to the wide range of options available at the market and the constant research developed in this area, we will be updating it constantly!
